A workers' compensation policy may have an offset provision that reduces the amount of benefits that the injured worker is entitled to receive by the amount of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits that they are receiving. A health insurance policy may have an offset provision that reduces the amount of benefits that the insured person is entitled to receive by the amount of medical expenses that the insurance company has already paid. Offsets can be a complex topic, and it is important to understand how they work before you file a claim. Generally if you are receiving a disability benefit through your employer, the terms of your disability benefit plan have already been negotiated between your employer and the insurance company, and there is nothing you can do to change it.
